How Do I Seek Peace When I've Hurt Someone?
Ask a follow-up in ClarityPeace begins with honest repentance: turn to God, then take the next faithful step toward the person you hurt.
Start before God
Name the wrong without softening it.
Confess it plainly: what you did, how it harmed them, and that you need mercy. God does not ask you to hide; “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9).
Receive forgiveness as a gift of Christ, not something you earn by fixing every consequence.
Go to them humbly
Jesus says that when you remember someone has something against you, “first go and be reconciled” (Matthew 5:23–24).
If it is safe and appropriate, reach out soon:
- Say specifically what you did.
- Do not explain it away or make them comfort you.
- Ask forgiveness rather than demand it.
- Offer concrete repair where you can: return what was taken, correct a lie, pay back a loss, change the behavior.
A simple beginning can be:
“I was wrong when I ____. It hurt you by ____. I’m sorry. Will you forgive me? I want to make this right if I can.”
Leave room for their response
Reconciliation involves two people; repentance is your responsibility.
They may need time, may set boundaries, or may not be ready to forgive. Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.” Do what genuinely belongs to you, without trying to control their healing.
God’s peace can meet you even while a relationship remains unresolved. Keep walking in truth, making repair where possible, and entrusting the outcome to him.
