Clarity answer
When I Don’t Know What to Do Next, How Do I Ask God for Wisdom?
Ask a follow-up in ClarityAsk God plainly, trust His character, and then obey the light He gives.
What James means
James says wisdom is for the one who lacks it: “if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God” (James 1:5). God is not stingy or annoyed; He “gives generously to all without finding fault.”
That means your prayer does not need to be fancy.
How to ask
Pray like this:
- “Father, I do not know what to do.”
- “Give me wisdom for this decision.”
- “Show me what is true, what is right, and what honors You.”
- “Keep me from fear, pride, and self-deception.”
- “Help me trust You while I wait.”
Ask in faith
James adds, “he must ask in faith, without doubting” (James 1:6). That does not mean you never feel torn. It means you are not treating God like a maybe-god, or asking while secretly refusing to follow Him if He answers.
Faith is not perfect certainty. It is steady trust in the God who gives.
Then take the next faithful step
Wisdom is often given as clarity for the next step, not the whole map.
- Search Scripture
- Seek godly counsel
- Pray again
- Choose what is faithful, not merely what is easy
